Creating the mask

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

I began work on the possum head this weekend. In the first movie it was mostly cardboard and paper ma che, and the mouth didn’t even open, so I had to do better this time… It’s going to be mostly aluminum, with aluminum screening for the “skin” and then covered with faux fur.

The idea here was to make the possum head quite large… If it’s too small it’ll just look like a possum head on a person. If larger, well, it’ll STILL look like a possum head on a person but at least it’s more to scale with an actual possum.

Mask features:

  1. Spring-loaded jaw that opens wide enough to bite a neck.
  2. “Blood ejectors” - left and right tubes that come out near the teeth so blood can spray out when it bites someone. Blood in blown through a tube that comes down the back of the mask.
  3. “Smoke nose” - a larger single tube that splits into 2 smaller ones at the front, for the nostrils. For added… effect the possum can snort smoke out of its nose. This works just like the blood ejectors except someone just blows cigarette smoke down the tube. The possum may also breathe fire, but that’d be effects, not something I’d work into the mask!
  4. Glowing red eyes - so you know it’s evil.

Some sort of filming to begin June 14th

We’re tentatively planning to start shooting on the weekend of June 14th. How is this possible, considering we just “go’d” this movie in May? Well….

One of the amazing features of Possumus Man 2 (or PMS - possumus man sequel) is that there is no “script”, per se. Instead we just have a fairly detailed outline which explains the scenes, locations and a rough idea of what happens in each.

Jones and I came up with the main outline in about 2 hours and I’ve been refining it since then. We all basically had a “laundry list” of things we’ve always wanted to do in a movie and have been throwing it all in. (Example, for me I’ve always wanted to drive a car through a wall of fire)

This frees us up and should make the movie less painful than some of our other efforts.

If anyone would like to help us out with filming, please email me. We’re all in south central Wisconsin…
